You’ll run into a lot of different kinds of relationships in college, and a big part of college is learning how to navigate them. Here I’ll address friends, professors, family, and romance, which are all types of relationships you’ll experience in college.

#1: Friends

Friends in college are forever friends. The biggest advice I can give you is put time and energy into your friendships. Forget about hookups, they will come and go, but good friends will always have your back. Surround yourself with people who genuinely care for and support you, and do the same for them. You don’t have to have be friends with everyone, but college is a great time to find people from all over the world who you get along with. Be yourself, be real, and take your headphones out every once in a while and say hello to the person next to you. You never know who you’ll find!

#2: Family

Your family won’t be around anymore to make you breakfast and do your laundry like it was in your high school years. It’s easy to lose touch with your family, whether they are close or far. Do your best to give them all a call every once in a while. Maybe set aside a time on a specific day of the week to Facetime, or even write a cute card home using Postable.com. Family and friends will always have your back, so don’t stray too far away. Even if you’re calling when you need something, ask how they are first. It’ll help your case, I promise. 😉

#3: Professors

Professors are your biggest opportunity for expanding your horizons on campus. Get on their good side right away! Sit in the front of the class, and ask as many questions as possible. You can find the best mentors in your teachers and classes. College is your chance to make connections and learn, and your professors can help with that more than anything. After college when the workforce is up ahead, your teachers and faculty are there to guide and support you. Draw from their wisdom and make some new faculty friends.

#4: Romance

Hook-ups are probably the most talked about relationships in college. They can be fun, but they also can be messy. Whether you go to a big or small school, being safe with college hookups is the key. Practice safe sex, and being clean is a turn on! A simple shower will do the job. If you can, grab the persons number! Keeping some communication is a good thing. Don’t be afraid to make the first move, you’re just as nervous as the other person. Relax and be you!
